About Mr. Krug

Mr. Jeremy Krug is originally from Benton, Illinois and graduated from Benton Consolidated High School. He has a Bachelor’s Degree from Murray State University (Major – Chemistry; Minor – Spanish), and a Master’s Degree in Curriculum Design and Assessment.

He is currently certified by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards in Adolescent and Young Adult Education in Chemistry/Science. He also holds a Rank 1 certificate from the state of Kentucky in Chemistry / Physical Science for grades 8 – 12.

From middle school through college, Jeremy was on the academic team. In high school, he played for four years on the Varsity Quiz Bowl team, and was selected as the team’s Most Valuable Player for the last three of those years. As captain, he led his school’s team to its only appearance in the Illinois Scholastic Bowl State Tournament, losing in the finals to the eventual state champion. He also played on the varsity academic team at Murray State University for four years and was selected as the Most Valuable Player his senior year.

Mr. Krug was also a member of his high school’s JETS Science and Engineering team. He advanced to the state finals at the University of Illinois three years in a row. As a sophomore, he placed sixth in the state chemistry competition. As a junior, he was second. As a senior, Jeremy was named Illinois Chemistry Champion. He also placed third in the state’s math competition. Up until that time, he was the only person in his school’s history to attain a perfect ACT score in both math and reading.

Jeremy participated in the Murray State University Chemistry Scholarship Tournament as a junior and as a senior, and he won both times. He was the first person of only two people in the competition’s 45-year history to win twice.

Mr. Krug is actively involved in academic competition. He has coached the Murray High School academic team in the past, and he currently serves as the president of the West Kentucky Academic Association, the local league for high schools and middle schools. He certifies coaches and officials for participation in the statewide Governor’s Cup competition, and he serves as Vice-President of the Board of Directors of the Kentucky Association for Academic Competition.

Although Mr. Krug has lived in western Kentucky for the past 25 years, he has traveled extensively throughout both the United States, Latin America, and Europe. He speaks Spanish fluently.

This year, Jeremy is proud to be teaching A.P. Chemistry and Honors Chemistry at Murray High School.

Not that I know of. It looks like Coon Rapids HS is in Minnesota, and I don’t have any relatives over there as far as I’m aware. Thanks for asking!
